About the product
About coffee:
Java is one of the most iconic names in the world of coffee—so much so that "Java" has become a nickname for coffee itself. The island of Java, part of modern-day Indonesia, holds a significant place in coffee history as one of the earliest regions outside of Africa and the Middle East where coffee was cultivated commercially.
Coffee was introduced to Java in the late 1600s by Dutch colonialists, who brought Arabica coffee plants from Yemen. The island’s rich volcanic soil, tropical climate, and high altitudes proved ideal for coffee cultivation. By the early 18th century, Java had become a major supplier of coffee to Europe through the Dutch East India Company.
Originally, Java was known for producing smooth, full-bodied Arabica coffees with low acidity and earthy, spicy flavor profiles. Over time, especially due to disease outbreaks like coffee rust in the 19th century, Robusta varieties were also introduced and cultivated in lower altitudes.
Today, Java still produces both Arabica and Robusta coffees, with notable Arabica farms located in the Ijen Plateau in East Java, grown at elevations of around 1,400 meters. These coffees are typically wet-processed and sun-dried, resulting in clean, mellow flavors with notes of chocolate, spice, and herbs.
Java is also known for being one half of the classic "Mocha Java" blend—one of the world's oldest and most famous coffee blends, combining Arabian Mocha beans with the rich, smooth beans of Java.
Java coffee remains a symbol of heritage, history, and quality—reflecting centuries of cultivation and Indonesia’s vital role in the global coffee story.
