Short History: Genmaicha is also called ,,Brown rice tea'' because it's bassically a green tea combined with roasted brown rice. Sometine is as well reffered as,, the popcorn tea'' because the resemblance with popcorn, when roasted, sometimes the brown rice pops. The origins of genmaicha can be traced back to the Edo period in Japan (1603–1868), when tea merchants began adding roasted brown rice to green tea leaves and the idea came to reduce the price of tea by using the rice as filler and make it more available to poorer people .It was also used by people fasting for religious purposes or who found themselves to be between meals for long periods of time. Today it's not applying anymore and tea became very famous, even abroad of Japan and it's consumed by all social classes.

About Japan Genmaicha tea: composed of high quailty Sencha leaves and puffed brown rice. Sencha leaves are from the first flush harvest from Kagoshima Prefecture, and the organic brown rice is cultivated in Hokkaido. The sugar and starch from the rice cause the tea to have a warm, full, nutty flavor. It is considered easy to drink and makes the stomach feel better. Tea steeped from genmaicha has a light yellow hue.
